Simple and Old Nail-spiration

1. Color block nails: Paint one color, let it dry completely, place tape over part of the nail, paint the exposed nail a different color, and remove tape. Finally apply a top coat. I used OPI's Russian Navy and Glitzerland.

2. The ever popular shatter polish... no explanation needed. I used OPI's Black Shatter and Strawberry Margarita.

3. A new take on the newspaper nails: comic nails! They work a lot like temporary tattoos.

4. Marble nails: Drip different colors of polish into a bowl of water, swirl with a toothpick, and place finger into design, using toothpick to pull away the excess. Use tape to keep it from getting on your skin.

I tried this one so many times and just could not get it right. So instead, here's a link to one of the many tutorials you can find online.

5. Nail pen art: These are my Girl On Fire nails... there are so many different things you can do with nail pens. I started with yellow polish and then used a black nail pen to create the flames. Lastly, I used a red nail pen and finished with a clear top coat.

6. French manicure: I used OPI's A Good Man-darin is Hard to Find and a price sticker on top of white polish to do the tip of my one finger.

Too bad I'm not more patient... I hate waiting for my nails to dry!

Girl on Fire

So of course, I went and saw the midnight showing of The Hunger Games last night! It was so amazing! I was truly impressed. What did you guys think?

We ended up taking a group of 25 and some how ended up in the same theater with seats near each other. It was so much fun, and I dressed like Katniss from the arena from head to toe. One of my friends made herself look like Prim, so we were sisters for the night....

We had so much fun! Did anyone else do anything big for the night??

Hungry for More

I decided to play around with Polyvore some more today and see if I could try to create some Hunger Games inspired looks. Here's what I came up with:

I was also very excited to find out that China Glaze plans to come out with a new Hunger Games collection in March named "Colours From the Capitol."

An article from The Hob describes it further, including how each color matches up with a different district! I can't wait, can you?

Wear the Rainbow

Some of you may have already seen the new O.P.I. Muppets collection out in stores now. The one pictured above, Rainbow Connection, my mom surprised me with when I came home for Thanksgiving! I just painted it on over O.P.I.'s Diva of Geneva and I really like it! It's perfect for the holidays and I can totally see myself wearing it year-round. It's fun to play around with layering the sparkles and confetti pieces. Personally, I like it thicker so that it looks like it does in the bottle. Next I'd like to try it on black nails. How would you wear it?

Shatter Splatter

So everyone already knows all about OPI's black shatter nail polish (advertised with the Katy Perry collection) and fairly new silver shatter (advertised with the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides collection), but have you seen any of their new colors out yet? The red, blue, and black shatter colors have also been paired with Serena William's Glam Slam collection. Here's a list of all of OPI's shatter colors:

Turquoise Shatter
Navy Shatter
Silver Shatter
Blue Shatter
Red Shatter
White Shatter
Black Shatter

But OPI is not the only nail polish company selling a polish that "shatters" to create a unique, chic look. China Glaze also has their own lines: Crackle Glaze and Crackle Metals.

Crackle Glaze
Lightning Bolt
Crackled Concrete
Black Mesh
Crushed Candy
Broken Hearted
Fault Line

Crackle Metals
Tarnished Gold
Cracked Medallion
Platinum Pieces
Latticed Lilac

News Flash Nails

The other day as I was “stumbling” through the web, one specific blog post caught my eye: a how-to on newsprint manicures! And viola!! Using just the tools I already owned, I was able to create an incredibly chic new manicure that has already caught the eyes of all of my friends. Here are a few photos of how my mani turned out… Enjoy!

Included in the pictures is my new purchase: The Fashion Book. I’ve had my eye on this publication for years and finally bought it at Barnes and Noble yesterday; the small version mind you- it’s cheaper!

Current Fashion Fixation (2/3/11)

I’ve decided that every once in a while, I will post what fashion item I am currently obsessing over. Today’s fascination: Katy Perry’s Black Shatter nail polish by O.P.I. I want it so bad, but the trick is getting out to the mall when there’s at least a foot of snow outside! Oh well, I’ll guess I’ll have to wait. But what I love about this nail polish, besides the fact that O.P.I. is amazing, is that the final look is very cool and very edgy. I love using nail pens, but I can see this as being a much easier way to get dark, artsy looking nails.
