Getting Personal

This semester I took Logo & Identity Design where we had to create our own logo and stationery set. Here's what I came up with for mine.

Here's my logo.

Here is my business card. It's long because the end of it folds in so the front is all white and the back is black. The inside has the QR code and contact information.

This is my envelope, not folded.

This is my letterhead: one blank, one with text, and a second sheet. The teal logo appears on the back of the sheets.

Warhol Wonders

I know it's been forever since my last post. Between college and myself being too lazy to take photos of things to post, and how easy Pinterest makes everything, I haven't been in the mood to post on here. Anyhow, I figured I could start getting into it again... I'm pretty sure my boyfriend is the only person that reads my blog anyhow.

So first things first, I've now added visiting the Andy Warhol Museum to my bucket list. Pittsburgh is definitely some place I'd like to visit.

Secondly, I've had the four 50th Anniversary Campbell's Soup Cans on my wish list for months now. I currently have two of them, but I'm still looking.

And lastly, i got an iPhone 5 for Christmas... yay! And I've been a bit obsessed with looking for cool iPhone cases. I found a few Andy Warhol cases from goincase.com and I thought I'd share:

Tape Shape

In high school, we learned how to make packing tape art like the sculptures by Mark Jenkins. In the photo below is the penguin sculpture I made for class where I attached a fish dog toy inside it with fish string.

As public relations for my residence hall at college, I have to create the "Duct Tape Trophy" for hall council. The Duct Tape Trophy is an object that gets passed onto a different student each week that has done something kind for the student that is currently in possession of the trophy. Last year, the trophy was made to look like an actual trophy covered in yellow duct tape and plastic gems created by my suite-mate, so this year, I took a different approach.

I used the packing tape sculpture method with bright chrome duct tape to cover my jewelry hand and then cut it out and patched it up, filling it with little beads that can move around inside. Hopefully everyone likes it!

Paint LIVE!

I downloaded the free trial of Adobe Illustrator to my laptop this weekend, so I've been having a lot of fun with the live paint and live trace tools that I mentioned in an earlier post. I got it so that I could make a unique campaign poster for myself because I am running for the Public Relations position in my hall next year. Here is what I came up with, very sweet and simple:

And then today, I decided to mess around with a couple of my favorite pictures... here's what I came up with:

So here are just some random images I have been messing around with in my Color and Composition class. This is my first time using Adobe Illustrator and we were learning about Live Trace and Live Paint as well as various color schemes...

Also, in my Graphic Design class we had to create a poster for the Graphic Design Program at Central. Here is what I came up with:

Ink'd

This is so cool! I stumbled across it the other day and had to share. I love the art and the way they use it to speak (If you just want the full effect of the art, mute it).

The Ghost in the Machine

In my art class, we’ve been testing out a number of different art forms. One of them is cassette tape art, made famous by Erika Iris Simmons. Her series, “The Ghost in the Machine,” takes multiple artists and creates them out of cassete tape and film reels. Her website, http://www.iri5.com/, shows so many amazing examples of her art and describes exactly what her series title means. I definitely recommend checking it out, but just in case, here are a few of my favorite examples from the series:

Here is my attempt at cassete tape art. I made mine a portrait of Hayley Williams from Paramore. It may difficult to tell considering Hayley’s most prominent feature is her orange or red hair, but here it is. Enjoy!

Andy, You're a Star (2/16/11)

I would bet that most of you know who Andy Warhol is or at least would recognize a couple of his pieces of artwork. I, personally, find him to be one of my main artistic inspirations. He took pop art to a new level, practically defining this new-then art form with his colorful silk-screens of mundane objects and iconic celebs. A few of my favorites of his include his Marilyn Monroe works, Flowers, and Shoes. He’s also quite famous for painting a Campbell’s soup can.

I tried my hand at creating my own Warhol-esque image in Photoshop, but it definitely doesn’t work as well with a brunette. Here it is:

And for those of you that are unfamiliar with The Killers, the title of this post is a song of their’s.


So I was flipping around in my latest issue of TeenVogue (March 2011) and happened to find, not one, but two cameos of Andy Warhol’s work.

The first is a Bond NO. 9 Andy Warhol Union Square Candle and the second, Andy Warhol’s Eye as a part of their “Cyberspy” article.

So art is something I am truly passionate about. I am currently only in Advanced Art at school, but I will definitely be taking a lot of art classes in college!
